David L Branscum

of Fox, AR

April 13, 1952 - August 14, 2017

David was the second son of Glen and Imogene Branscum. He was a cowboy, a mountain man, a father, a grandfather, a brother, and a fiery defender of those he loved. He was a jack of all trades, master of many. For most of his adult life he was a stone mason, a skill he learned from his father. He elevated that skill into an art form. People who watched him work would marvel at how he could look at a wall he was building, gaze at a pile of rocks in front of him, then walk over and pick up just the right one, tap it with a rock hammer removing only a sliver, then set it perfectly in place like a puzzle piece. His beautiful rock work can be seen in Arkansas, especially all over Stone County, in Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, and New Mexico. David was a multi-talented craftsman. He made jewelry, he hand-tied fishing lures, he worked with leather, metal, stones, of all types and sizes. Anything he was interested in he would teach himself to do.

If you were David's friend there was no one more loyal or generous. If you were not sure where you stood with him, then you clearly had not been paying attention. He was honest and direct, and expected the same in return from the people around him. And as a result he commanded the respect of many people. He had no time for pettiness or dishonesty. His stoic personality and singular resolve to do what he thought was right were legendary, as were his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. Many people may not know that in his younger years he was mistaken for Chuck Norris on several occasions, and he used to say that someday he was just going to go ahead and start signing autographs. There was nothing he loved more than to be outdoors hunting and fishing.

David is survived by his brothers, Roger Branscum and Robin Branscum; his children, Melissa Roe, Shannon Holshauser, Leah Branscum, David Bransucm, Becki Trammell, and Christina Hale; a score of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene; his father, Glen; his brothers, Frankie Branscum, Gale Branscum and Alan Branscum.

Pallbrearers are David G. Branscum, Roger Branscum, Greg Branscum, Caleb Branscum, Jimmy Butler, and Jerry Butler. Honorary pallbearers include John Butler and Jon Birkey.

A visitation will be held Thursday August 17, 2017 from 6:00-8:00PM at Roller Coffman Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held Friday August 18, 2017 at 10:00AM at Roller Coffman Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas with Brother Junior Barham and Brother Luther Branscum officiating.
